TFS Series: Stillwater People's Hearing

  • Stillwater Community Center Room 121 (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Our third stop in the People's Hearing Series is Stillwater, in Room 121 at the Stillwater Community Center Tuesday, August 20th from 6-8 PM. We have invited State Department of Education board members, each of whom is an appointee of Kevin Stitt and not accountable or in touch with our communities, to attend a community listening session so they can hear directly from you about your concerns. This session is open to all; students, teachers, parents, and concerned community members. We understand that the regular monthly State Board of Education meetings being held in OKC during a workday are not accessible to many and the fact that they can only allow for ten speakers, makes it even harder for our voices to be heard. Even more, Oklahomans outside of OKC have less access to the physical meeting and meeting livestream. The People's Hearing is an opportunity to share your concerns, joys, and hopes for public schools in Oklahoma in and where you live and grow. Come out and let the board members know how they can better serve you and our community!

Light dinner will be provided. We will do our best to accommodate dietary needs. Please contact RPC (rpc@freedomoklahoma.org) with any questions or concerns. Seating is limited, so register now!

A note that while this event originally was scheduled to take place in Room 116, we have been shifted to Room 121 because of air conditioning issues.

Queer the vote: Tulsa mayoral forum

As we look to another election cycle, we know 2SLGBTQ+ Oklahomans are painfully aware of how much local elections and down ballot races can impact our day to day lives. We’re holding this space not to offer an endorsement, but rather in offering 2SLGBTQ+ Oklahomans an opportunity to hear from folks vying for our votes about how they plan to prioritize, engage, and support our community. Join us Sunday August 18 at 3 PM for a virtual conversation with Tulsa Mayoral Candidates ahead of their August 27 Election.

This is an informative space with invitations extended to candidates across the political spectrum, not an endorsement event.

August Youth and Young Adult Listening Session

On Thursday, August 15th, from 430 to 6pm, we will be hosting a virtual listening session for OK residents ages 14-25 who are interested in improving their communities and making their voices heard. 2SLGBTQ+ voices will be centered, and selected participants will be compensated for their time. As we move into the fall and focus our efforts on creating safety for all 2SLGBTQ+ Oklahomans to thrive, we hope to better understand the needs of the youth and young adults within our community by creating space for their experiences to be shared and ensuring our mission covers the needs of young 2SLGBTQ+ Oklahomans, too. Signing up shows your interest in this event; we will be emailing those selected to participate. We look forward to working with all who sign up soon!
